OVERVIEW OF VR DEVICES

After long and interesting debates with my sisters on the VR technology, i decided to do an overview on the VR tool available in the jungle market. Don’t take it like as a ranking. Anyone will find the perfect hardware for her/his personal use.

So let’s start.

PLAYSTATION VR:

The PlayStation VR headset gives the opportunity to experience the world of virtual reality only with a Sony console. It combines a neat semi-futuristic and comfortable helmet, with wide ranges of games. These include Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One X-Wing Mission, Eve: Valkyrie and Batman: Arkham VR, as well as Astro Bot Rescue Mission, one of the more interesting VR games.

For those who own a PS4 or PS4 Pro, this line from Sony is one of the most affordable ways to venture into the world of virtual reality. With the addition of two PlayStation Moves (the controller), it is also possible to perform movements in space to reproduce them in the virtual world.

This VR headset doesn't deliver the resolution of the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, but it does offer a 120Hz refresh rate in some games. It is also available with a pair of in-ear headphones.

Zoggie’s Tips : I’m sure you want me to give you a tip to be able to watch porn movies one the PSVR. So follow the following steps.

First download the application "Littlstar cinema" on your PS4. Then download any VR videos on Pornhub on a USB Key device (some are free).

Link the USB device on your ps4 usb port and open the video in the "littlstar Cinema" application.

Then Enjoy the experience

PRICE : AROUND 300€

PROS: DESIGN AND ERGONOMIC, EASY TO INSTALL

CONS: YOU WILL NEED A PS4, THE SCEEN RESOLUTION IS NOT OPTIMAL

OCULUS RIFT S :

The Oculus Rift S offers a VR solution to connect to a PC and enjoy immersive games. This new VR device is much more elegant than the first version. It has a 1280 x 1440 resolution screen with an 80Hz refresh rate. It's quite light, which makes it ideal for long VR gaming sessions.

This headset also has a pretty neat feature on the audio side. The Rift S replaces the original built-in headphones with mini speakers installed in the headband. The audio results are quite impressive.

Thanks to Oculus Insight tracking technology, this headset offers a better VR experience without the need to place external sensors. These touchscreen controllers help make virtual reality much more kinetic and immersive.

PRICE : AROUND 450€

PROS: ERGONOMIC, EASY AND PLEASANT TO WEAR, HIGHT DEF SCREENS

CONS: THE PRICE, THE HEADSETS NOT INTEGRATED

OCULUS QUEST 2:

The second autonomous headset in the Oculus range, this new generation is equipped with integrated sensors and is supplied with Oculus Touch controllers.

While the Quest 2 isn't exactly light, it is very comfortable to wear and weighs less than its predecessor. The foam covering the outline of the visor is quite breathable. This means that the recipient can use it for a good period of time without the risk of too much heat building up inside the helmet.

Regarding the image, the Oculus Quest 2 has two Oled screens displaying a definition of 1832 × 1920 pixels per eye. As for audio, spacialized speakers project sound waves into the user's ears, providing an immersive VR experience.

PRICE : 350€

PROS : PERFORMANT AND AFFORDABLE, THE PRICE, ALL IN ONE DEVICE, MAYBE THE BEST VR DEVICE

CONS: YOU WILL HAVE TO LINK IT TO A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT

OCULUS GO:

Oculus Go is Facebook's first standalone VR headset. It does not require a smartphone or a PC to operate. This version is an all-in-one VR headset. It comes with a 5.5 inch LCD screen that converts to 1280 x 1440 per eye.

Its design shows some similarities with the Oculus Rift especially its lines on the front face. Comfort is the main asset of this helmet. It is very light and you only need to adjust the bands on the sides to be comfortable. Very flexible, its attachment system adapts perfectly to all shapes.

As pleasant as it is, when it comes to immersion, the experience remains limited. The Go allows rotations, but not movement in space. It only provides 3 degrees of freedom motion detection.

PRICE : 450€

PROS: AUTONOMOUS, AND WIRELESS

CONS : THE PRICE, ONLY ONE MOUVEMENT CONTROLLER

HTC VIVE

The Valve HTC Vive headset offers a variety of thrills thanks to the ability of two motion controllers. These controllers can be customized to the shape of the hand and come with pressure sensitive controls for deeper immersion in VR games.

It is also equipped with an LCD screen providing a variable refresh rate. It's also a very well-made headset with comfortable cushioning and built-in speakers that sit close to the wearer's ears.

PROS: EXTREME IMMERSION, MOUVEMENT RECONGNITION

CONS: PRICE, TOO MUCH WIRES, COMPLICATED TO INSTALL, NEED A PERFORMANT PC

VALVE INDEX

Valve has a long and rich history around virtual reality.

The helmet weighs just over 800g which is heavy compared to today's helmet standards. However, its weight is balanced enough to keep it comfortable during long play sessions.

The controllers are one of the strengths of this device. They attach to your hands, which means you can completely release your grip without worrying about dropping them. They also include pressure-sensitive controls, adding additional immersive potential to games that support it.

Equipped with an LCD screen, it offers high resolution.

The main downside is the lack of a USB-C cable to charge the components.

PRICE : 1080€

PROS : BEST VR DEVICE ON MOTION TRACKING, VERY GOOD QUALITY

CONS: THE PRIIIIICE, COMPLICATED CONFIGURATION

PANSONITE 3D GLASSES:

The Pansonite 3D is an affordable premium virtual reality headset (working with a smartphone). It features a fabric design similar to thr PlayStation VR. Pansonite also includes a built-in headset with an auxiliary input.

Its front has a small flap to hold the phone in place, leaving the camera uncovered for all AR-based mobile apps. Despite all this open space, the Pansonite manages to block out almost all of the outside light for a fairly immersive experience.

Playing Roller Coaster VR on this headset is exhilarating, and the 360 degree shark experience remains a blast. Even the fan-made Star Wars VR on YouTube was fun to watch through the Pansonite.

PRICE : 40€

PROS : COMPATIBLE WITH MOST OF THE SMARTPHONES, LIGHT AND CONFORTABLE , THE PRCE

CONS : NO CONTROLLER AVAILABLE

TOPMAXIONS 3D

If you want a basic VR headset, the Topmaxions is a choice to consider.

One of the best features of the VR headset is that it works quite well with several types of phones. It fits an iPhone 6 and 6s as well as an iPhone 5s / 5c / 5. It is also compatible with Samsung Galaxy phones such as s5, s6 and note 4 among others.

This VR headset for mobile phone is quite easy to use. There aren't a lot of tweaks and long, step-by-step instructions to get it to work. In addition, this helmet is lighter, which makes it more comfortable to wear.

PRICE : AROUND 100€

PROS : BEST OPTION FOR MOBILE PHONE VR, LIGHT

GOOGLE CARDBOARD

Google Cardboard is the best way to try virtual reality without spending a lot of money.

It is made of cardboard, two magnifying lenses and a magnet on the side. .

It is designed for use with an Android or iOS smartphone less than 6 inches, which then acts as a display. Of course, to enjoy decent picture quality, it is strongly recommended to use a smartphone equipped with a Full HD panel (1920 x 1080 pixels) at least.

Google has also developed an entire ecosystem around “mobile” VR and there are now many compatible applications on the Play Store, not to mention 360 ° videos on YouTube.
