Il braguetone
Julius II, also known as the "warrior Pope" ordered MiguelAngelo to stop the creation of his tomb; -after eight months choosing the marbles- because he needed his total dedication in the new pictorial work for the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City that would become perhaps the most exciting legacy of painting.
Michelangelo, despite not quite liking the idea, accepted the most holy commission to paint the prophets and apostles. After four years of work, in 1512 the doors of the Sistine Chapel would be opened for the most privileged; everyone would be ecstatic at that unsurpassed beauty.
However, the double standards of the time gave rise to some criticisms based n chastity and modesty; This would be the case with the negative comments of Biagio De Cesana, who was scandalized by the drawn parts of the saints. In this way, he went along with other cardinals to complain to the new Pope, Paul III.
The Pontiff summoned the author to comment that the "holy genitalia" produced a certain suffocation for the cardinal. And he, with great regret, asked him to dress them, to which Michelangelo replied: "Holiness, the saints do not have a tailor."
However, the authority ordered to paint a kind of white gauze on the problem. By the year 1530, Paul III, knew that, despite he was nor one lamb how he liked, there was no genius to match the scandalous artist. For this reason, he would request his creative virtues - like previous popes - to paint the "Last Judgment" at the Sistine.
Although he was still very angry with the pontiff for having the nudes of his earlier creation covered, he accepted the project; because there he would find the inspiration and the moment to take revenge for the censorship. Michelangelo did not feel any kind of passion for religious matters. However, he would use the apocalyptic theme of the "Last Judgment" to elaborate an exquisite revenge against Biagio De Cesana, as the one responsible for the severe modification of his work.
The revenge was a bit comical. Michelangelo would illustrate the master of ceremonies in the underworld. Biagio De Cesana was ridiculed with huge donkey ears and a snake curled around his chest and biting his testicles. The fussy cardinal, who would recognize himself instantly, starred in hell at the Sistine. De Cesana was terrified to see himself reflected for all eternity in the fire of hell. He again went to Paul III, relating the humiliation to his most holy person. De Cesana begged him to repress the painter, to which the Pope replied very mockingly: «If I had sent you to Purgatory, I could do something, because my power goes to get you out; but in hell it is impossible; You can't get out of there, my son.
