A Portal to another World
A brave new world is taking us by storm.
Today a Portal from one city to another allows us to see our loved ones and desired ones in real time. Tomorrow our avatar's bites or its sensory hologram will be able to cross a new generation of portals allowing relocation at the speed of light, and jump from Paris to Hong Kong to enjoy an afternoon of caresses and smooches without jetlag.
The rampant Artificial Intelligence will allow us very soon, more than you expect, to create super-intelligent humanoids that carry out our tasks and even allow our conscience to use them as it does with our bodies today. Between a world of super humanoids and another of super sensory holograms I have a hard time choosing - but I'll always be Claire. And besides, soon we can create a computer game as real as our reality which we will be able to play, since we are trained.
Other animals have stronger muscles and sharper claws than us, but we have cleverer brains and our generations built on the achievements of its predecessors. That's what gave us a formidable advantage to rule the world.
I say earlier than you expect because of the rate of growth of economic productivity and technological capacity. Later developments, related to the Industrial Revolution are amazing. What took 1 million years to increase one million individuals wealth in say 50.000 BC took a couple of centuries after the Agricultural Revolution by 5.000 BC. Today, following the Industrial Revolution the world economy grows by the same rate each ninety minutes !!! If the world economy maintains its current growth rate on a moderate level of the past 50 years average, the world will be 5 times richer by 2050 and 34 richer by 2100, than it is today.
I dare to guess that the next revolution will be that of the Machine Intelligence, where machines will match humans possessing common sense, ability to learn, reason, planning to meet complex information challenges and why not - make sex and have fun.
