A NEW RECORD
A total of 91,553 spectators have witnessed the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, according to data from the Barça club, which is the absolute record for attendance in a women's match football around the world. Double celebration for the culés, as the game was won by a landslide.
The Camp Nou came close to filling its more than 99,000 seats, but it did break the previous record set in the 1999 World Cup final between the United States and China, which was attended by 90,195 at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, with the Americans as hosts.
The match, the first official one that Barça plays with the public at the Camp Nou, also exceeded the 60,739 spectators that the Wanda Metropolitano de Madrid registered in 2019 in the duel of the Women's First Division (Iberdrola League) between Atlético de Madrid and Barça, which until now had the attendance record in a club match.
Despite the rain that fell in Barcelona during the day, the Barça fans mobilized to go to the Camp Nou after in recent weeks the Catalan entity has made calls to fill the Barça temple.
Finally, the member, who could get free tickets, and the fan in general, who could buy tickets at affordable prices, have responded and have turned this match into a new special date for the thriving women's competition; also in a meeting with a growing rivalry between Barça and Madrid and that can become another classic of Spanish football.
