A DARK ANGELS CREED
“We see people with our hearts, Not with our eyes
We Believe in Beauty of the soul, Not Beauty of the Flesh
We Believe in Individuality, Not in Prejudice
Or souls Don't need saving, For they are not in peril
Just Because we aren’t Saints, Doesn’t mean we'll Burn in Hell!!”
I was confronted with the above creed and the concept of Dark Angels and took it upon myself to investigate, who are they?
A Google search brought me some approximations to the concept:
“The Angels of Darkness are the wicked, mean, and corrupted opposite of the Guardian Angels and they have no problem with using their powers for personal gain and to evil doing.”
I immediately note that they are not any of the categories of angels that we commonly know (Seraphins, Cherubins, Thrones, Dominations, Virtues, etcetera), and neither are Fallen Angels, so they are in a separate category.
The definition that I found most adequate to the creed, giving it meaning, reads like this:
“A Dark Angel is a special type of angel who acts like soldiers or assassins for God. They are angels known for the brutality and inability to fall.
They instigate war, hatred, and mass destruction to eradicate the filth, which are the humans who have gone so far down into corruption and destroy the world so that a new world can be established. In some passages, these angels are regarded as the avengers of God's justice without being evil spirits. However, some dark angels would also act as tempters to check if the tempted would leave God… They would sometimes inhabit a mortal body which then use them as vessels in order to exact their vengeance against the sinful and the depraved of the human world while also defending the virtuous from malevolent forces.”
Thus, we have the Dark Angels as renovators, those who destroy in order to renew, a kind of arsonist appointed by God. A 007 of Her Majesty! An INRI for Ignis Natura Renovatur Integrae (by fire all of nature is renewed), the plaque that allegedly hung from the top of the cross of the crucified Christ.
If we have this concept as a map, we can analyze the creed in a more efficient way. “We see people with our hearts, Not with our eyes”, meaning that they look for evil or virtue in the hearts of sinners regardless of the beauty they display, for what interests them in is the beauty of the soul, its virtue, and they do not care for the material aspects (We Believe in Beauty of the soul, Not Beauty of the Flesh), from which it follows that an ugly human can be virtuous, as a beautiful can be malicious.
The third verse of the creed tells us that “Our souls Don't need saving, For they are not in peril”. It is unclear which souls do not need saving, Dark Angels or sinners. If they are those of the latter, it means that there is no condemnation for anyone, only creative destruction. If they are the souls of the former, that means they are not fallen angels.
Finally, the last verse states that they are not saints (“Just Because we aren’t Saints, Doesn’t mean we’ll Burn in Hell!!”), and here, without a doubt, they are referring to themselves. However, not being Saints and by antithesis having to be sinners, no condemnation awaits them, for the unholy actions they commit, which agrees with the previous verse that establishes that they do not need to be saved.
Their main characteristic of being creative destroyers that allow humanity to regenerate, places them at the level of beings necessary for humanity development and growing. Let's say they are diamond polishers who cut or break rough stones until they become perfect gems.
As they seem to be cheeky rascals who cross our path to assess the purity of our hearts, I imagine that they offer us temptations to assess our virtue. Since I'm not always the paragon of virtue, and while I'm not bad, I'm not good either, so I hope they don't trip me up when I'm doing my duty. It's best that they go to another parish, because I can't live more suspicious than what I already am.
