Interview with DJ_Starducks

I met with DJ_Starducks at my Paris Riverside Property on May 23rd.

Claire_B_dO: First of all, I would like to thank you for agreeing to meet with me and taking the time to do so.

DJ_Starducks: You’re very welcome.

Claire_B_dO: How long have you been in RLC?

DJ_Starducks: A long time, a little over 15 years now.

Claire_B_dO: 15 years? Wow that is a long time.

DJ_Starducks: Yes, it’s gone by really fast.

Claire_B_dO: Do you remember what first brought you here?

DJ_Starducks: I was playing games on Yahoo and a girl was telling me about it, so I thought I’d come and check it out for myself. And here I am still going.

Claire_B_dO: RLS seems to have a way of getting you to stay doesn’t it?

DJ_Starducks: Yes, it’s so addictive. But to be fair if I didn’t take up DJ-ing I might have gone.

Claire_B_dO: Well, that leads on to my next question. How long have you been DJ-ing?

DJ_Starducks: Oh heck. Let me think. I’d say about 10 years, maybe 11. I’m not actually sure.

Claire_B_dO: What’s your favourite type of music to play?

DJ_Starducks: Well, it’s got to be Rock and Metal. The Trance. But I like to play most kinds of music and depending on what people want, I would try anything. I did try Jazz once and didn’t really like it. But Blues I do like as well.

Claire_B_dO: Well, you know very well that I love music.

DJ_Starducks: Yes, I do.

Claire_B_dO: You must have so many songs saved and available foryou to select.

DJ_Starducks: Oh yes. I had to put some on an external hard drive. Not sure if I can have too many, but I do have a lot.

Claire_B_dO: External hard drives and very handy gadgets.

DJ_Starducks: Yes, they really are.

Claire_B_dO: Is there a psrticular place that you have DJ-ed that stocks in your mind?

DJ_Starducks: Oh, I use to DJ at Beach Memories and at another placed called Aruba. That was a good club.

Claire_B_dO: One thing I love about RLC is the wide variety of people you run into. And for the most part those people are friendly and make for a very nice community.

DJ_Starducks: Yes. You can become very close to some and make some very real friendships.

Claire_B_dO: I know of people that have met here that have gone on to meet and form strong real life relationships.

DJ_Starducks: Same here. It does work for some people. But others not so good.

Claire_B_dO: Yes, there is a flip side to every coin.

DJ_Starducks: Yes.

Claire_B_dO: You say your favourite kind of music to play is Rock and Metal. Narrowing that down further, do you have a favourite band or artist?

DJ_Starducks: I don’t really have a favourite band. But I do like Slipknot, Metallica etc.

Claire_B_dO: Yes, so many to choose from.

DJ_Starducks: I know if it’s a good tune I will play it and I am open to pretty much anything, music-wise.

Claire_B_dO: I have always enjoyed the music you play.

DJ_Starducks: Thank you.

Claire_B_dO: Aside from places you have DJ-ed, do you have any other favourite places on world?

DJ_Starducks: At the moment no as all I have really been doing is DJ-ing. I really should spend some more time in world and find some new places.

Claire_B_dO: Well, it keeps you out of mischief I guess.

DJ_Starducks: I used to have a few favourite places when I first came here, but most of those have gone now.

Claire_B_dO: Well, I guess that’s the transient nature of RLC as a place.

DJ_Starducks: Yes.

Claire_B_dO: Places come and go just like people do too.

DJ_Starducks: Yes, that’s very true.

Claire_B_dO: Have you ever done anything like DJ-ing in real life, outside of RLC?

DJ_Starducks: No. I have never thought about it. I don’t think I could do it in real life to be honest. But here it is the best thing I have ever done.

Claire_B_dO: That’s another thing with RLC I guess. It provides opportunities to do things you would never dream of doing in real life.

DJ_Starducks: Yes, that’s right.

Claire_B_dO: Do you have a favoutite real life place to visiti?

DJ_Starducks: Oh, I loved going to Turkey on holiday. The best times.

Claire_B_dO: You have branched out ftom DJ-ing in world to playing in an in world band, Atomis Ducks. That’s been going for a while now I believe, are you pleased with how that’s going?

DJ_Starducks: Oh wow, I really wasn’t sure about that at first. But now I am loving it. We have a great little team and have good banter between us. It’s so much fun.

Claire_B_dO: Community spirit in action again.

DJ_Starducks: Oh yes. One of the best things we did as a group.

Claire_B_dO: Do you pick the music you play with Atomic Ducks?

DJ_Starducks: We try to pick between us. And we ask other’s opinions too. There is a lot of bands to choose from.

Claire_B_dO: I guess it becomes difficult to keep it fresh and not keep repeating the same stuff?

DJ_Starducks: Exactly. It’s knowing what will do down well. It’s not easy choosing the right band for us to play.

Claire_B_dO: But that’s kinda the same with DJ-ing too.

DJ_Starducks: Yes. I am looking all the time for new tunes to play, see if there are any new bands out there. And that takes up a lot of my time.

Claire_B_dO: It’s always exciting to find a band that’s new to you.

DJ_Starducks: Yes. And I am always up for taking requests when I m DJ-ing too.

Claire_B_dO: Yes, you are always open to requests and I have never had one turned down by you that I have asked you to play.

DJ_Starducks: I will do my best to get it if I don’t already have it. I like to please the audience.

Claire_B_dO: One more question. If you were in charge of RC, what is one change you would make?

DJ_Starducks: Oh, that’s a hard one. I would definitely try to get rid of the Boot Monster! And maybe give Brian a shake.
