FOR A BETTER RLC

At an event celebrating my recent ten years anniversary in Utherverse, I was asked by Sarah to make a speech, I managed to dodge that by saying I would write a few words here for the Amazon times. The people here now we hear complaining about this or that have no idea how crude and basic RLC was back in the day, but in my opinion far better than it is now. The biggest change is the massive drop in population bought about by many years lack of interest or investment by Brian Shuster and his staff, who were so focused on bringing us a new world called Curio, this world here I love just sank as they fiddled. Despite many trying to get Brian to understand we wanted this world, warts and all, not the dreadful lagged out Curio with its awful SL lookalike avatars and the need for a gaming PC just to enter the dam place. The other sad thing now is there are so many who have no interest in RLC as a fun, sexy place to be, and are here only to sell clothes or property, many of whom do not even VIP unless they have to, who take rays out of the world but put nothing back in, (I am sure most RLC decorators are virgins). Oh how I long for the days when it was a sex site, now its full of people who have outgrown Lego and now play in RLC, time was I would load into Utherverse transport (before the days of having our own transport) and as I landed there would be 10 pm`s asking for sex, now nothing, transport is full of full time permanent greenies, and designers hanging there all day like beggars trying to sell an outfit for a few rays. With that in mind one of the single biggest mistakes was the introduction of VWW for all, so everyone now in their own little places instead of in public areas or clubs. There used to be about six clubs we could access from street or alley, all packed all day, no giveaways, no dance teams to inflate the population, they were full because there was only a few clubs with hundreds trying to enter them. There was no URL bar, no landmarks, to get to a club you had to go from transport to street or alley and walk to the club, street and alley were always full of avatars (with the added excitement of public sex) with just a handful of packed to maximum clubs, where now there are a thousand empty clubs. Clothes design was not an easy task, there was no clothes editor as we know it now, RLC only provided the basic RLC skin and clothing that are still worn by greens now, there was a third party program which we could get clothes from if we downloaded the program, most did not which meant at any given time half the peeps we saw were just all grey. Clothing was mighty expensive too, at least fifty Rays for dress, maybe two or three hundred for something more complicated, so the introduction of the RLC clothing tool did bring the price of clothes down because of supply and demand, and the market is swamped. On the other hand property has risen, decorators who done it for pleasure have gone now greed is the name of the game, my first zaby I hired a decorator, she had to come to my place to build it, there were no transfers of property layouts back then, all deco was one off custom, she worked three long days and charged me one hundred Rays, now they build a layout and sell the same thing several times over. Oh i could go on forever, but who could forget when the population exceeded the max 3000 the server could cope with, the next peeps logging in were sent to a duplicate world, so usually on a Friday night I could be in world, and maybe my lover also, but in two different identical worlds. Despite all those crap things we had, the place was better because it had a heart and soul, there were people lots of people, but I am still here hoping, that with the demise of the awful Curio, once again we will be excited by weekly patches, that the population will grow, to give me back the world I love.
